About Canyon RV Park
Welcome to Canyon RV Park
Canyon RV Park is the hidden jewel of Orange County. Occupying 63 acres of the 795 acre Featherly Wilderness Preserve, Canyon is situated along the Santa Ana River in the heart of the Santa Ana Canyon.
Our beautiful natural wilderness setting with acres of grass and trees is ideal for the whole family. Enjoy the open area for recreation along with our seasonal pool and playgrounds for the kids. Be sure to bring your bikes. You can cruise through the park or cycle down the Santa Ana River Bicycle Trail just adjacent to us. This bicycle trail runs from the Orange/Riverside county line all the way to the Pacific Ocean in Huntington Beach. 20 minutes close is downtown Anaheim where you can enjoy Disneyland, events at the Anaheim Convention Center, an Angels baseball game or Ducks hockey. You may even choose, like most of our guests, to relax and simply enjoy your time away.
We hope to see you soon and bring the family, start a tradition and create some memories.
History of the Land
The land on which Canyon RV Park is located has a long and colorful history. We know from archaeological finds near the Santa Ana River that the land was inhabited by Indians as early as 4,000 years ago.
European contact with California began with the arrival of Spanish explorers in 1542. They were in search of a western passage to the East. A mythical waterway the Spanish called the Strait of Anian.
In 1767 a young Spanish soldier, Jose Antonio Yorba, arrived in "New Spain". He traveled along side Gaspar de Portola in the military guard that accompanied Father Junipero Serra on his expeditions establishing the missions and presidios.
Around 1810, after his retirement and for his service given, Jose Antonio Yorba was granted 62,500 acres of land from the King of Spain. He called the land Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. His land was located south of the Santa Ana River.
Jose's third son, Bernardo Yorba, desired to have a ranchero of his own when he grew older. In 1824 he requested and was granted 13,328 acres of his own from the Mexican government. He called his ranchero Rancho Canon de Santa Ana. His land was located north of the Santa Ana River and included what is now Yorba Linda. By combing the land granted to his father and him, Don Bernardo created the greatest rancho of early California. He was also known through out the state for his wealth and hospitality.
Years later, portions of the Yorba's rancheros were sold off. The Irvine family eventually purchased the land Canyon RV Park is located on. The Irvine Company used the land for cattle ranching. The area was also a favorite picnic spot and swimming hole for local residents. As the population in the area increased the Irvine family had to close the area for the protection of their cattle.
To meet the county's growing population and recreational needs in the late 1960's the County of Orange created a master plan for the county's regional parks. County Supervisor, Cye Featherly opened talks with the Irvine Company and in 1970 Featherly Regional Park opened as the county's third regional park.
Today the park is privately operated by our company, St. Clair Property Management. We are a family owned business and have been operating Canyon RV Park since July of 1993. We are honored to continue to the vision of Cye Featherly and the County of Orange with the stewardship of preserving, protecting and providing such a beautiful campground to share and enjoy with our guest.
